The 21st meeting of International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals (“Skal International”) Baku club was held on the 14th of June. According to the tradition the event that took place at the Park Inn by Radisson Azerbaijan hotel, was launched with the national anthem of Azerbaijan Republic.

Later, a video encompassing the activities and achievements of “Skal International” through its entire existence was shown to the guests.

The first speech was given by the Director of “Skal Baku” club, the General Manager of Park Inn by Radisson Azerbaijan hotel, Ahmet Can Yesildag. In his speech he mentioned that “Skal International” is an NGO created with the purpose of promoting professional tourism activities through friendship and peace. “The organization has 15,000 members in 500 clubs allocated in over 90 countries.  In order to solve global problems concerning the Tourism industry without involving politics, “Skal International” clubs gather together during various international events.” – said Mr. Yesildag

He also noted that, the Tourism industry plays an important role in developing the economy of Azerbaijan through creating jobs in over 20 different fields of the sector.

According to Mr. Yesildag, “Skal Baku” has 34 members, 23 of whom are active. The other 11 members are considered Young Skal. He also mentioned that in the future, Skal clubs will open in other regions of Azerbaijan as well.

The honorary guest of the evening, the former Ambassador of Turkey to Azerbaijan, His Excellency Mr. Alper Joshqun said that it is great responsibility for him to deliver a speech to the representatives of the tourism sector. The former Ambassador noted that until being invited to the event, he had no information about the “Skal International” organization. “Only after being invited, I researched the organization on the internet and realized that Skal is an imperative association which has its own path for the development of the Tourism industry. I was especially moved by the objection statement made by Skal Turkey in regards to the recent terror acts that took place in the country. The representatives of the association made it clear that terror cannot break their spirit and that they will always be by the side of the Turkish people and government”.

Mr. Alper Joshqun also talked about the acts of terror that had happened in Turkey and that the persons responsible for them, will be brought to justice sooner or later.

Another highlight of the evening was Mr. Zafer Tangil’s – the Vice President of “ISR Group of Companies” - inauguration as a new member to “Skal Baku”. Although, previously offered a membership by “Skal Bodrum”, he gave preference to “Skal Baku” - said Mr. Tangil. He also noted the importance of presence of Skal in Azerbaijan.

Some of the noteworthy activities include the establishment of twinning relations between “Skal Marmara” and “Skal Baku”, the trip of Turkish media representatives to Azerbaijan (resulting in more than 30 published articles in Turkish press about the possibilities of tourism in Azerbaijan), and the development of a new website. It is already possible to learn almost anything about “Skal Baku” through our official webpage:  www.skal.az

Mr. Ahmet also said that in the next few months, new trainings and courses will be available for the members of the club.

The honorary director of “Skal Baku” Mr. Ruslan Quliyev noted in his speech that the role of the club in development of tourism in Azerbaijan, and of the relations with industry professionals in Turkey is remarkable.  He said that a new page has opened for the activities of the club with the election of Mr. Ahmet Yesildag as the Director of “Skal Baku”.

Later on, Mr. Quliyev talked about the great contributions of late Fayis Mammadov to the growth of tourism in Azerbaijan and his dedication to the industry. The club decided to create a scholarship under the name of Fayis Mammadov, to honor his memory.
